Frequently asked questions

Monk Fruit

Enlightening answers and more delicious details on the revolutionary sweetness of PUREFRUIT™ Monk Fruit Extract.

  • What is PUREFRUIT™?

PUREFRUIT™ is all natural sweetness extracted from monk fruit. Used as an ingredient, PUREFRUIT™ naturally adds a great, sweet taste to food and beverages with no calories. Because it is a concentrated sweetness, it takes only a small amount of PUREFRUIT™ to make products taste great, so you get the same great sweet taste, with fewer calories.

  • How is PUREFRUIT™ Monk Fruit Extract made?

The sweetness of monk fruit is concentrated by the following process:
Crush – The fresh fruit is crushed to release its natural sweet juice.
Infuse – The crushed fruit is mixed with hot water to make a sweet infusion.
Filter – The infusion is filtered and goes through a separation process to purify and further extract the sweet components called mogrosides. The concentrate is then spray-dried to produce a fine white powder.

The resulting sweetening ingredient is PUREFRUIT™ Monk Fruit Extract which is 150 times sweeter than sugar so only a small fraction is needed to create natural sweetness in foods and beverages.

  • If PUREFRUIT™ has zero calories, why do some products with PUREFRUIT™ have calories listed?

As a sole ingredient, PUREFRUIT™ itself is calorie-free. Certain products may contain some sugar or other ingredients, which can contribute to calorie content. But here’s the great news: products that contain PUREFRUIT™ and other ingredients have great sweet taste and have fewer calories!

  • How do I know if PUREFRUIT™ is safe?

PUREFRUIT™ has a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS). It is Kosher and Halal Certified, and GMO-free (no genetically modified organisms). The natural extraction process ensures an all-natural and natural sweetness.

  • What kinds of products will contain PUREFRUIT™?

PUREFRUIT™ adds delicious, natural sweet taste to your family's favorite products, including juices, juice drinks, flavored waters, carbonated beverages, yogurt, cereals, and nutrition bars, all with less sugar.
  • Is monk fruit known by any other names?

Yes. It is sometimes listed on the ingredient label with its Asian name "luo han guo fruit" (luo han translates as "monk" and guo is "fruit")

  • Where can I find PUREFRUIT™?
